2008 Meetings and Programs
All Huntsville Wildflower Society meetings are held at the Huntsville Public Library auditorium at 7:00 p.m. The library is located at 915 Monroe Street in Huntsville. All meetings are open to the public and are free of charge.
February 13
We will have our first spring potluck dinner with a Valentine’s theme. Please bring a dish to share. Drinks, cups, utensils, napkins, and Valentine decorations will be provided. Feel free to bring pictures or other items to share with the group.
February 27
Jerry Green, an award-winning local nature photographer, will give a presentation on local birds. Jerry will share many of his stunning bird photographs and discuss the secrets of bird photography.
April 9
Brian Finzel, President of the Huntsville Wildflower Society, will give a presentation on his summer 2007 trip to Alaska. Brian will share his stunning landscape, animal, and wildflower photos from Alaska, the Alaska highway, and the Canadian Rockies.
May 14
Susan Weber, manager of the Hays Nature Preserve and Goldsmith Schiffman Wildlife Sanctuary, will present a program on these land tracts which represent the city of Huntsville’s largest parklands. Susan will discuss the history, ecology, and recreational opportunities at this fascinating wetlands habitat.
August 13
Nick Sharp, Land Stewardship Coordinator for the Alabama State Lands Division, will give a presentation on Alabama’s Forever Wild Program. Nick oversees wildlife/ecosystem management on Forever Wild property.
September 10
Dr. Jim Lacefield, owner of the Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve near Tuscumbia and author of Lost Worlds in Alabama Rocks, will give a presentation on the geological history of Alabama. Jim will discuss Alabama’s incredibly diverse geology that is directly responsible for Alabama’s rich array of flora and fauna.
October 8
We will have our annual fall potluck dinner. Please bring a dish to share. Drinks, cups, utensils, napkins, and fall decorations will be provided. Feel free to bring pictures or other items to share with the group.
